Around the Fire
Sell by not selling
Become a subject matter expert.
Sell 24/7.
Network everywhere you go.
Never stop talking about your product and solutions.
Do you think you would like to speak to someone with these tendencies? Right, so don’t be that person.
Here’s what nearly everyone misses when they go into sales, and they either figure it out after some time, or they bail on sales because of how hard it is: make people feel good when they talk to you!
If you know me, and you’re reading this, you know I’m big on the mantra “When people talk to me they feel good.” That is my goal always. 100% of the time. If you can make someone feel good when they talk to you, then you have one of the most transferable skills in the world.
How does this apply to sales: Problem solving and making people feel good. In its simplest form you are building trust with that individual. Trust is the key that unlocks the sale. This isn’t fake, manipulative, trust you’re building. Be sincere and genuine and help them. By the end of nearly every call or discussion that I have with someone that is sales oriented, they will inevitably ask me one question that shows me I have earned the right to start to sell my services or product to them:
“So, what exactly does your company do?” Game on.

The Tinder
3 Follow up emails that may reclaim their attention
Subject Line: Where do we go from here?
Body: Hey Bob, I wanted to thank you for all the time you’ve put into our discussion. I haven’t heard from you in a few weeks. Where would you like to go from here?
Subject Line: One more thing
Body: Hey Bob, If you haven’t made a decision on another vendor, I’d to talk incentives to partner with us. How does tomorrow look for you?
Subject Line: One last call - Top competitors need this
Body: Hey Bob, I know we put a lot of work into our discussion, so I wanted to check in and see if you still are interested in partnering before I reach out to [their top competitor]

The Kindling
2 software platforms to consider for your data collection
ZoomInfo, I’ve found, provides the highest quality of data for your cold emailing, cold calling, and general information about businesses that you want to get into, like org-charts and revenue.
Cost - $4,000/yr +
Usability - Easy to navigate and access specific prospect segments
Credits can be provided on an annual and monthly basis with the enterprise program
Apollo is another great, cost effective solution for data collection. Data is accurate, and where it isn’t they call out that emails are unverified or phone numbers are on the “Do Not Call” list. Pricing scales with the number of contacts you choose to target each month, which makes it a great program for small businesses just getting in to their outreach.
Cost - $500/yr +
Usability - Easy to navigate and access specific prospect segments
Credits can be provided on a monthly basis. Enterprise engagements are typically custom built/quoted.

The Fuelwood
1 Atomic Offer They Can’t Refuse
Consider the Gillette model. Just typing the word “Gillette” I can smell the shaving cream I used to use. Their atomic offer was simple and deadly: Sending a free handle with a few replacement blades to as many homes as they could. This was basically the “free sample” model, only they didn’t ask you if you wanted one, they just sent it to you.
What is your free sample that you could send to literally anyone via mail, email, or standing in the mall.
Well, I had an idea!
What if a CPA offered free personal tax preparation for each individual within a company that they owners specified. The idea here is to add value that surmounted the cost, built the relationship to a deeper personal level, and engaged a business as a longtime partner, making more on business taxes than they would on individual taxes.
Yes, this would cost them a decent amount in order to see if grow, however if they did a great job, they’d certainly be the most popular business tax firm in the city.
